The third aspect that plays a role in determining your Pokémon card is the state of the card. The condition of your pokemon card is classified into the following categories:

P -Played
LP -Light Played
G - Good
EX - Excellent
NM - Near Mint
M - Gem Mint

How is the state of my Pokémon card determined? What is the state of my Pokémon card?

You determine the state of the card based on a number of factors:

Scratch on the front/back side
Whitening (White pieces, mostly on the back see sample photo)

If your card was put directly into a sleeve (Sleeve + Toploader) after coming out of a pokemon pack, then it is probably in a NM - Near Mint condition. Does your pokemon card have Whitening or scratches on the front/back? Then it has a Light played/Excellent condition.

State of pokemon card determined, now what?
